[영어회화 표현] catch a break

"Catch a break"는 "운이 따르다", "좋은 기회를 얻다" 또는 "힘든 상황에서 벗어나다"는 의미예요. 주로 어려운 상황에서 조금이라도 도움이 되는 일이 생기거나 운이 좋아져서 상황이 나아질 때 쓰여요. 보통 부정적인 맥락에서 많이 사용된다. 

• "She’s been working so hard, and she finally caught a break when she got the promotion."
  → 그녀는 정말 열심히 일했는데, 마침내 승진을 받으면서 좋은 기회를 얻었어.
• "It feels like I can’t catch a break lately. Every time I solve one problem, another one comes up."
  → 요즘은 아무리 해도 운이 따르지 않는 것 같아. 하나의 문제를 해결하면 또 다른 문제가 생기거든.
• "After weeks of job hunting, I finally caught a break and found the perfect position."
  → 몇 주간 구직을 했는데, 드디어 운이 따르며 완벽한 직장을 찾았어.
• "John can’t seem to catch a break—everything he tries ends up going wrong."
  → 존은 아무리 해도 운이 따르지 않는 것 같아. 그가 하는 일마다 다 잘못돼.
